Sustainable cities - Harbour Identity as a Catalyst for Urban Development
Successful urban development often depends on a sensitive approach to tradition and identity. Both Malmö and Hamburg are cities where port activity has long shaped their character. In both cases, former docklands have played a central role in urban renewal and in the creation of modern, sustainable and attractive neighbourhoods. Here, we will learn more about the development of HafenCity in Hamburg, as well as Västra Hamnen and Nyhamnen in Malmö. Who has controlled the land during the process, and how has risk been shared? What role does culture play in urban development? Is it possible to build an attractive city without creating exclusion?
