What are the biggest challenges for you and Swedbank right now?

AI, data and automation are maturing fast, but in banking the real challenge is not access to technology — it is how we scale it responsibly, securely and in a way that strengthens trust.

We are working intensely on turning advanced AI and data capabilities into everyday business impact, from fraud prevention and financial crime detection to more personalized and proactive customer experiences, while fully aligning with frameworks such as the EU AI Act, GDPR and heightened cyber‑resilience requirements. That means building explainable models, strong governance and deep integration into core processes, not just running pilots on the side. Swedbank positions responsible, transparent and trustworthy AI as a foundational principle, not an afterthought, which raises the bar on how we design and deploy technology across the organization.

At the same time, we are managing the structural complexity of a large bank — modernising legacy platforms, migrating data and analytics capabilities to cloud‑based architectures, and enabling faster innovation without increasing operational or compliance risk. Balancing speed, security and regulatory confidence is probably the defining leadership challenge for tech executives in financial services right now, and it requires tight collaboration between technology, business, risk, legal and leadership teams rather than siloed decision‑making.”
